I skim through my husband's old PC Gamer mags just on the off chance I'll get a look at his sooooo unbelievably hot bod. Is it twisted to lust after a video game character? Maybe I'll write a story about it...

And no, I haven't had a chance to read more than the first bit, but so far so good, and I'll be happy to let you know what I think when I'm done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19623437.post-72008946264777693862007-01-12T10:05:00.000+00:002007-01-12T10:05:00.000+00:00Thanks, Kis...Triskelion believes beefcake covers ...Thanks, Kis...Triskelion believes beefcake covers sell books, and I can't argue with it because I don't know. (The cover I wanted had no people at all, just a red silky background and a large black sword. Something a little old-school, you know?) I do wish they'd left his face off. I mean, I guess he isn't that ugly--I've gotten used to him now, although he doesn't look anything like Gruffydd--but his body really isn't terrible at all. I agree your cover idea sounds awesome. I love men's backs.

(I think the severed head sounds really fucking hot, personally. I'd buy that book in a second.)

Did you read P of D, then? Email me if you want and tell me what you thought! (Or tell me here. I can take it!)

Yes, cover art should be a major part of your decision. I firmly believe that a lousy cover hurts sales. It makes your book look cheesy and bad. It's very upsetting, but I think it's true...so we do the best we can and try to get as many reviews as possible so you can say, "The cover is awful but the book isn't."

*bows* Thank you.Staciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07969399927758009095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19623437.post-55583475141009648102007-01-12T08:06:00.000+00:002007-01-12T08:06:00.000+00:00So, yeah, I scrolled a bit down and read one of An...So, yeah, I scrolled a bit down and read one of Annie Dean's posts (from Jan 8th I think) criticizing the glut of atrociously abysmal ebook covers, and there you were in the comments, December, and I just feel so awful for you. I'm totally with you on the fact that P of D had a fine cover that gave a real feel for the content of the story. But the Black Dragon...oh, dear.

Doesn't he have a mustache in the book? I mean, if they don't think staches look as good on a cover as they do in the reader's imagination, why don't they show him from the back? Nothing sexier than a man's rippling, muscular back, you know, even Lou Ferrigno's. There's the hot hero, gazing up at the castle walls with his sword clenched in one hand and a hot babe or a dozen roses or a severed head in the other. Now that's hot. Okay, maybe not the severed head, but still.

I'm starting to think that the pubs I'm going to query first are the ones with consistantly decent covers. They don't have to be perfect, but they shouldn't make your eyeballs bleed and your autonomic nervous system shut down. My biggest fear is finally placing a book and then getting stuck with a cover that makes me feel as screwed over as Michael Jackson after that last rhinoplasty.

On the other hand, though I can see why you wept over the BD cover, it's not that bad, comparatively. There are so many that are just sooooo much worse. And the sad thing about a lot of those others is that the writing inside is just as inelegant as the cover art. At least you can actually write.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19623437.post-77278612872127798582007-01-12T02:24:00.000+00:002007-01-12T02:24:00.000+00:00I kind of like the 'peeing in bowl' historical det...I kind of like the 'peeing in bowl' historical details (within reason--and okay, maybe I don't need to hear about actual PEEING).

But, GO DECEMBER!
