Pimp me out, baby!

Yes! My inaugural blog over at the League of Reluctant Adults blog today, on the subject of: Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys, or is funny the Rodney Dangerfield of Speculative Fiction?

And I'm offering a prize, too! My book doesn't come out until April, but I'm still a giver.

It's a magnet!

What does it say? "The Yezer made me do it." What does it mean? The Yezer Ha-Ra is the Hebrew name for that inclination in all of us to do evil, to hate ourselves, to succumb to our desire to sin and create new sins, to give up on life, to dwell on bad memories, etc. In other words, the Yezer Ha-Ra is the Hebrew name for our personal demons.

So don't forget to pimp us out, and be the first to get a magnet! Trust me. As David Ogden Stiers said in Better off Dead, "Everyone's going to have one of these."

So pimp us on your blog and link to my post, and you could be the proud owner of the very first item of Personal Demons merchandise. That's bound to be worth money, folks.

See you over there!

I liked this line from your blog over there: "It's much easier to forgive someone a sour dramatic note, or a bad line in a book, when it's a Serious Work. But a few jokes fall flat...and you're probably putting the book down". So true.

Well, if you're going to offer bribes.... ;)

OK, pimped. I even figured out how to do a link with a graphic button, which I've never done before, so that was useful.

I posted on my LJ instead of my blog here, just because I figured it'd make more sense to go where the audience is. Angie's Desk still only gets a small handful of visitors on a good day, whereas AngiePen gets, well, more, like by an order of magnitude or two. And if I'm going to join the magnet raffle I figured I could at least make it worth your while. ;)

Oh, and I agree with Bernard -- that line is very true. Humor is hard to do well, and it's a pass/fail exam. There's no such thing as "almost funny." At best, you can see what the writer was trying to do, but if it failed it's not funny at all, just sort of eyerollingly pathetic.

The Yezer. That's a convenient name for it. I always just thought of it as my "inner nasty." I'm going to call it Yezer from now on.

OK chica - pimping and linking, but give me a day to get organized, lol. I'm still rushing over here. Got to get that zombie comedy off to the editor yesterday.
:-D

Thanks everyone!

I'm extending the pimping contest, so pimp us anytime this week (mentioning me specifically) and you're entered. Plus, the response to the magnets has been so positive, I might give away more than one...
