Some small joy in Mudville

Not a lot, but not none at all.

I had a lovely post planned for today about art, and writing as, and whether it is, and what it is, and the difference between creative and reactive art.

But I have suddenly been slammed with edits on three different projects at once, so I am going to have to work, because not only do I like to get edits OUT and away from me as soon as possible, this is putting me well behind on Unholy Ghosts.

So. Here's some random stuff instead.

This is the new, Cerridwen Press cover for Black Dragon. Isn't it so much better than that other thing? I'm pretty pleased with it, all together. It's not exactly what I had in mind but I think it's very nice, I love the dragon in the background, I love that they at least made an attempt with Gruffydd's scars, I like that the setting looks natural and not forced. So yeah, I am pretty happy.

As I dropped Princess off at her school this morning, I saw the following posted outside her classroom: This year's Nativity is about a disgruntled snowman. It made me smile.

Karl Lagerfeld apparently has a sign over his toilet that reads: Pissing everywhere isn't very Chanel. Which is the awesomest.

And that's basically it.

Yes, looks much more real.

I don't remember seeing the old one (maybe that's just as well? :) ) but this one's definitely nice. [nod]

Ack, edits! I hope they go quickly and smoothly. :/

Yay! Good cover!

He's much cuter than the other guy, bless his heart.

A much nicer cover!

I'm keeping my old copy for nostalgia's sake though.

Aren't Nativities supposed to be about mangers and stars and myrrh? No wonder the snowman's disgruntled. How did he get cast into that scene?? tee hee

(not that I'm promoting religion in schools...eek)

It is nicer, isn't it Bernita? More real (even with the dragon in the background), more...natural.

Angie, the old cover is here. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Ugh, edits...groan, I was hoping they could wait until next month, but sadly no.

I know, Robyn, I felt bad for disliking the Lou Ferrigno-looking guy so much. It isn't his fault. But boy...did I ever dislike him.

Thanks Anon! :-) There's been a bit of rewriting done on the book as well, for its rerelease. It's a bit darker, maybe a tad sexier, but poor Gruffydd...I'd planned to do something with him from the very beginning but left it out of the original. Now it's back in.

And yes, perhaps that's why he's disgruntled? Lol.

Lol, my characters are downright pissed right now. :)

I like the new cover a lot better, too.

I sympathise because a bunch of stuff suddenly "hit" for me too and I'm sinking.

Stacia said...

Lol, Gabriele, are they going to get over it soon?

It's awful, isn't it Charles? Your free hours disappear like smoke.

Much better than the first version.

I just finished a project and sent it off. Yesterday I got an email that my proofs are being overnighted to me, so the timing couldn't be better. Hope your edits go well!

Pissing everywhere isn't very Chanel
I _so_want that sign. Not that people piss everywhere in my bathroom, but when I read it, I hear it in this fashionista/German accent that is simply hilarious.

Nice cover. I like it much better than the other one, which, to be honest, kinda made me feel like a dirty old woman. That guy looked like jail bait.

This guy is way hotter. And I like the background. Overall, a much more effective cover, I think.

It is, isn't it, Anne? It's lovely to look at the cover and not want to stab my eyes with a corkscrew.
Oooh, proofs! Yay!

Thanks, Sam! :-)

Thanks, Cyn! Oh, yes, Princess has a definite accent. I alternate between thinking it's cute and thinking it's really annoying--"You're American! Talk AMERICAN, dammit!" But of course I never say that to her.

I know, Bettie, the sign is freaking awesome, isn't it? And you can apply it to so many things. I'd love to write a UF set in the fashion industry so someone can say something like, "Cannibalism isn't very Chanel" or "Ritual scarifice isn't very Chanel." In fact...I totally might do that.
Oh, the old one was just terrible in so many ways. I will never forget opening the file and bursting into tears. Horrible.

He is hotter, McKoala, and he even looks--well, not like Gruffydd, but certainly a lot MORE like Gruffydd. Yes, it's a much more effective cover--but I do wish it had the font the Trisk one had, because I did love the medieval font.

Much better than that Lou Ferrigno/Eric Bana mixture... *G*

Hey Sherrill! Yes, he is, isn't he?
