Yeah...

I'm supposed to be blogging about the mullet and muttonchops today. But you know what? I just plain don't feel like it. I feel to chatty to focus, so here are some random thoughts:

Blah blah blah Anna Nicole Smith blah blah.

No, seriously. I think it is a tragedy. A baby just lost her big brother and her moth and she's only a few months old, and that is horrible. What I find most interesting is the internet "coverage". I haven't yet seen a man comment that this is tragic or sad, or that he hopes Anna Nicole has found peace. Most men seem to be either on the "shrug, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner" or "Hahaha!" sides. I haven't yet seen a woman who isn't saddened. A lot of women seemed to feel almost like AN was sort of a patron saint, beautiful and confused and doing her best in the world. I don't know if I would go that far--there was always something hard about her face that bothered me--but certainly I think she was vilified unecessarily. I think she honestly loved J. Howard Marshall and I think she deserved the money he promised her.
But the sex split over this really fascinates me, although I don't feel like analyzing it just now. You guys tell me what you think about it instead.

Speaking of fascination, I can no longer keep from telling you all to go read Lola London's 'L'Undone'. Start back at Chapter One. I am riveted.

The hubs is going out of town tomorrow so I will be all alone for the weekend. I expect you all to keep me company.

In my internet wanderings I stumbled on a story about a guy whose girlfriend was visiting him. She decided to go get a manicure. he warned her about dirty tools but she had her own for them to use anyway. I thought, wow. What a great "show don't tell" example of character. The kind of woman who not only owns her own set of manicure tools, but who takes them everywhere with her in case she needs a manicure. Masterful.

I don't know how the internet guys feel, December. I didn't look. I agree with you that her death is tragic. She was so young and with still a baby daughter. And now, the media hype over who might be the girl's father...Jesus H. Christ!... Yes, December, it is tragic.

I'd rather hear about hairy chests and Burt's dad and cool narratives about pedicure-maniacs.

I'm boycotting media fluff this week, so I'm afraid I can't respond to the other bit.

I agree totally with your opinion about how women and men have responded to AN's death. Its bizarre isn't it?

Thank you for the mention up there, I am incredibly flattered! :)

Thanks, Erik. I think I'm in a particularly philosophical sort of mood these last couple of days. Who knew I had a deep side? Lol.

Oh, I'd rather hear about hairy chests and stuff too, lbl. I wouldn't have commented on the Anna Nicoles thing--normally the doings of celebrities interest me about as much as solving algebra problems for fun--but the gender dichotomy so struck me on this one I wanted to comment.

Yoiu're very welcome, Lola. I'm serious, I can't stop reading. Your story of obsession is, I believe, fomenting more obsessions. :-)

I've often wondered where mullet came from. I'd usually heard it called hockey hair (I'm Canadian) or banger hair (I was a banger too). I didn't come across the term until the late 90s when the new crop of lab rats startd their summer jobs. Young punks and their slang. It was the first time I'd heard "cougar" too.

I'd never heard the word "mullet" until a few years ago, but I'd obviously seen the haircut since the mid-80s.

Gawd - I feel it was a terrible waste that she died so young, but frankly, that's it. Eeeegads! So many good people dead and dying, and there's this huge outpouring of sympathy for this, this...what was she anyhow? A gold digger? A drug addict? A woman with the morals of an alley cat? She won't be able to ruin her daughter's life - so that's one good thing. Maybe the kid will have a chance at a decent life without the drugs and unstable mother, unlike her brother may he RIP. (The only one I feel sorry for is the baby. Period. And frankly I feel she's better off without her lunatic mother.)

Now, where is that mullet post???

My husband and I were talking about the
blah, blah, Anna Nicole Smith, blah, blah

And I think my husband said it best. The only tragedy there is that a child lost her mother. End of story... zippo... finis...

That is a good point, Sam. Perhaps the baby will have a more stable life now. Funny how people predict seeing her in the tabloid in seventeen years or whatever...why? We didn't see Jayne Mansfield's daughter Mariska Hargitay until she grew up to become an award-winning actress. We didn't see Freddie Prinz Jr. until he showed up in a couple of movies, married Sarah Michelle Gellar, and they both disappeared. SO why would this baby be any different?

I think when anyone dies so young it's a tragedy, Rashenbo, but I do agree with your husband.
